Despacito is a song from 2017 released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It was the single that became the most popular streamed song worldwide within just 6 months. The single Despacito which was a mix of reggaeton and pop was not only a way to bring new interest to reggaeton but also brought more attention to Latin music. In 2015, there were two predominantly Spanish-speaking songs in Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. In the height of Despacito's success in 2017, 19 songs mainly in Spanish reached into the Top 100. It climbed to 41 in 2020. After Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in the year 2017 the most well-known artists began to join forces with reggaeton musicians. Drake and Bad Bunny worked together for the track MIA MIA (2018) and Madonna teamed up with Maluma for Medellin 2019, which was released in 2019. In 2020, a few Reggaeton performers were expressing displeasure about the trend of the genre toward the mainstream. But a newer generation like Rauw Alejandro was keen to maintain the development. The incorporation of elements from electronic dance music, as well as different styles was an accepted method.
